Many patients suffer from pain or discomfort in their Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and the surrounding muscles of the head and neck. This can manifest in such symptoms as chronic headaches, pain in facial and neck muscles, pain in teeth, clicking and popping of joints, limited opening of the jaw, and pain and ringing in the ears. TMJ Syndrome is a disorder of the jaw muscles and nerves that is caused by previous injury or inflammation to the area from habits such as clenching and grinding. Depending on the severity of a patient’s symptoms we can offer multiple methods of treatment to alleviate pain in the TMJ and muscles of the head and neck. Some of the most common treatments include: appliances and splint therapy, bite adjustments, sleep apnea treatment, orthodontics, and/or trigger point injections using local anesthetics, steroids, and/or Botulinum toxin (Botox). For those patients with more severe symptoms, we will refer you to a specialist who can assist you with further treatment.
